Will Medford pipes affect Tufts’ water supply yet again this month? The activation of a pipeline on Wednesday could cause discolored water at Tufts and in the surrounding area. The water could remain in this state for a few days, especially near Boston and Packard Avenues. Information provided by the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority (MWRA) to Medford Patch states that the discoloring is a result of iron deposits in the pipes, but emphasizes that the water is safe to use. The iron, however, will cause stains on garments or items in the laundry.

The MWRA can be contacted at 617-305-5950.
