The Tufts Beelzebubs, or Bubs, appeared on the Sing-Off last night, a special Christmas episode that brought back competitors from all three seasons of NBC’s reality TV show, a singing competition featuring a cappella groups.
The Bubs competed in the first season of the show and placed second. Last night’s special brought back the original 2009-10 group to perform, including members who had already graduated like crowd favorites Matt McCormick and Penn Rosen, and former music director Nick Lamm.
“What you did is you brought a long-brewing movement of university a cappella … to the people,” judge Ben Folds said to the group. “It was the Bubs that really started this whole thing out and you guys really kinda cracked it, it was growing and growing and then you guys really blew it up.”
Folds also directly addressed Rosen and McCormick, saying that they had grown into much more seasoned performers.
In the video clip below, the Beelzebubs perform “Santa Claus is Coming to Town” with two other collegiate a cappella groups, The Dartmouth Aires and On the Rocks. The full episode can be found on NBC’s website.
